Just got my teeth cleaned...
Thought I'd share a quick note ... I just got my teeth cleaned and the Costa Rican dentist (not assistant) did the actual cleaning.
Teeth Cleaning = ₵15,000 colones ($27.27 USD)
Teeth Whitening = ₵65,000 colones ($119.05 USD) - 15 day overnight 16% peroxide gel with custom molds
My son is also starting his pre-orthodontics:
Complete X-rays, Pictures and Full Dental Molds = ₵33,000 colones ($60.00 USD)
Update 11/14/08: Me and my son just returned from some cavity work ... I guess we've been bad ![]()
White Cavity Fillings (composite) = ₵13,000 colones ($23.60 USD) each, including painless local anesthesia where needed.
P.S.: The doctor has advanced degrees in orthodontics and dental surgery.

Claudia,
You are very welcome for the information! Sharing information was the whole idea behind starting www.CostaRicaBlogger.com in the first place.
I am always looking for additional items to share, so please be sure to stay in contact. The more information we can collect, the better for all readers!

P.S.: I know of one Costa Rica couple that went to Columbia for medical treatment for a substantial cost savings, but they were not comfortable with their security (real or imagined) during the trip. Bottom line for many other foreign visitors, Costa Rica medical costs are much cheaper than in the U.S. and elsewhere while providing a nice ‘medical vacation’ or relocation destination.

What do I need to bring prescription meds to Costa Rica? I am on ambien and valtrex and I ripped my name off the bottle of my Valtrex, because it would be horrible to lose the bottle with my name on it...So will they hassle me because of that?

J'adore,
All prescription medications must be in pharmacy bottles identifying them as yours per TSA rules. This means if you are flying from the U.S., you can actually have an issue even before boarding your flight to Costa Rica.
My advise is to call your doctor or pharmacy, tell them you are leaving on vacation and need extra medication for your trip. You will then have your medication in a proper container.
Enjoy your trip!

Hello,
I had dental work done in CR a couple of months ago. I had my jaw readied for a dental implant (screw placed in the gum). It is healing very well. I now need to go back around July to have the crown placed etc. I am looking for the facility that actually makes the crowns etc. I was told that it could be made and placed by the same facility at a fraction of the time involved to go to my regular dentist (who is asking for eleven days!?) and is boosting the price accordingly.
Can you let me know of the facility that does all of the work including the manufacture of the crown in just a few days?
Please let me hear from you at my email address?
Thank you,
T

Bill,
I am also interested in receiving an e-mail about the dentist. My husband needs all his teeth done. It will cost us thousands of US dollars. Can you give me details on where I can find your dentist? Thanks, Melody
