Costa Rica Blogger - Our 1 Year Anniversary
Today is a special day here at Costa Rica Blogger.
One year ago today on November 26, 2007 was the first entry on www.CostaRicaBlogger.com. The 11/26/07 blog entry was simply and appropriately titled: ¡Bienvenidos!
Since the initial post we have successfully moved to Costa Rica, obtained Permanent Legal Residency, my son has completed his first full year of private bilingual education and we have come to appreciate the differences between where we came from and where we now live.
The following are some brief Costa Rica Blogger statistics from the last year:

Enjoy the holidays and please continue to check back for more updates from here in Costa Rica.
¡Muchas Gracias y Pura Vida!

Bill and Family, Congratulations!!!
From where I sit looks like you made the right decision to move to CR. Things in US look a lot different than a year ago and the Depression deepens.
Enjoy whatever bird or fruit you eat for Thanksgiving and keep writing.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!
P.S. It still amazes me that CR has no military.

Hello My name is Lavinia ( love in ee ah) I live in Grecia. How did you get your permanent residency within a year? I was told it takes 3 yrs. Please explain how you did this as I would love to do it too. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Buenas diaz Lavinia ("love" the name! :o),
Under current Costa Rica law it does take 3 years of any one of the 4 types of temporary residency (Pensionado, Rentista, Inversionista or Representante) before an application of Permanent Residency can be applied for.
The only exception is the Permanent Residency by first degree relative … this can be applied for without any delay.
In my specific situation, my son is a native Costarricense so my Permanent Residency application was approved in 1 day. It took 4 months start-to-finish to obtain my Cedula (Permanent Residency ID).
However, as you probably know a new Costa Rica Migracion bill that is predicted to be passed into law within the next two weeks will under its current language raise the financial requirements for Pensionados from $600 to $2,000 a month and for Rentistas from $1,000 to $5,000 a month. Such changes to temporary residency requirements underscores the importance of obtaining Permanent Residency or Citizenship for those planning on making Costa Rica their long-term home.
Stay tuned for a Costa Rica Blogger update once the new Migracion bill becomes law.
