I recently returned to St Augustine Florida after spending the Christmas season in Costa Rica with my Tica wife, son and extended family. They live in the San Jose area and I live in the US as we work on their Visas applications.

Arriving into San Jose on Dec 17th, I checked into a favorite, small B and B not far from the Teatro Nacional, across from the Escuela de Senoritas. Casi Alfi is a wonderful and inexpensive Inn that I often use when Dina has family visiting from out of town. It allows us some privacy and a place to go when we are taking advantage of events at the Plaza Cultura. For example on the 19th of Dec Banco National had free misic beginning at 1pm and ending much latter in the evening with a concert by Malpais.

Dina and I spent the afternoon there listening to music, letting the children feed the pigeons, and enjoying the free candies and fesiviteis providied by the Bank. Before we left to go see Madagascar Two at the Multiplaza in Zapote we went back to Casi Alfi, washed the kids up, enjoyed some refreshments and we were off. We returned after the movie and dinner to listen to Malpais.

On The 21st we were off to the Pacific coast for a week in Nosara and stayed in a wonderful rental house we got through Nosara Paradise rentals ( they have a wide variety of options available ) The weather was awesome, the beaches lovely and the wildlife incredible. Our little house was surrounded by jungle full of Howler monkeys, and all sorts of birds and Iguanas. If you are looking for a place to surf, deep sea fish or simply play on the beach or swimmimg pool this is a great place to go. Our Christmas was wonderful as Dina or little 3 yr old son, Jarrel, his sister Sofi and brother Gean Carlos as well as their cousin Catarin celebrated the Navidad with food and music, in this wonderful tropical paradise.

It was a long drive back on the 27th as we ended our Holiday. I was sad I as I was heading back to Florida the next day, leaving my family behind, but happy for the wonderful days we had together. San Jose is really special at Christmas, all dressed up wth the lights and full of special things to do. Our week at the beach was spectacular. Having to return home is always difficult but I know I will be returning soon, and hopefully by the spring Dina will be coming back to Florida with me. She wants to come first alone, with her mom caring for the kids, so she can be sure that the State is a place she wants her children to live.....and I cannot blame her. We plan to one day live in the Central Valley together when I retire, but untill then we will always have the pressures and pleasures of this bi-national lifestyle , with one foot in each country.

Feliz Navidad y buen año tambien

    Chao
